I want a web site, brochure, etc., but I’m already working with web/print design and SEO firms. How do I bring you on board as the copywriter?
Q: Do you have experience writing copy for my field, product, industry, or service?
A: It would be a pretty safe bet that I do. Over the years, I’ve written web and marketing content for:
It’s definitely not an issue if your business doesn’t fall under those categories. I’ll welcome your project with open arms and mind. I love researching new fields. After all, my ability to discuss the latest features of JVC’s LCD televisions and predatory mortgage lender tactics makes me a big hit at parties! Just take a look at my portfolio.
Q: For which types of projects do you write copy?
A: Web site content writing and print marketing copywriting are my specialties. I’ve written scripts for Web videos, but that is as close to television and radio that I have been. Press releases, brochures, sales letters, reports and guides, and of course web sites are my forte because copywriting is about building and maintaining B2B or B2C relationships through communication and that is what I do best.
Q: If you’re in Kansas City and I’m halfway across the country or the world, how do we work together?
A: Ahhh…the glory of the digital age. Less than 1% of my client base is located anywhere near my office. Ireland, England, New York, California, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona- as Johnny Cash sang, “I’ve been everywhere, man.” With my trusty Mac and iPhone, I can email, teleconference, and even video chat without missing a beat.
Q: How do you approach a copywriting project?
A: Often it depends on the type of project, but basically it goes like this: First, I collect information about your business, your goals, your audience, and message. Then I research everything I need to know to write effective content that will achieve the goal. I send it to you for review, changes if necessary, and approval. Finally, off it goes to the web or graphic designer for uploading or print.
The beauty of working with me is that I take as much or as little direction as my clients want to give. Just run with it? No problem. Run everything by our team first? Again, no problem. Take these 37 bar napkins with notes and turn them into something spectacular. Ditto, no problem.
Q: Are you a copywriter who proofreads carefully or one who doesn’t?
A: As a former English teacher, I believe dry cleaners should proofread receipts. But some copywriters follow the “I’m a writer, not an editor” proofreading philosophy. I however, don’t. Clever creativity and being a stickler for grammar, spelling, and punctuation go hand and hand at Write Essentials. Send me the final URL or print proof and I’ll even ensure that a designer didn’t accidentally misplace a sentence or cut and paste a period into oblivion.
Q: What if I don’t like the web or marketing content you delivered?
A: Ouch, just the thought gives me shivers. So rest assured that you will be very proud to use my copywriting in any project. I include a revision process in every proposal so all you need to do is tell me what changes you’d like made- it’s as easy as that. Large scale revisions are very rare here at Write Essentials because I include the client from the beginning. When you know the direction the copy is going, there aren’t any surprises later.
Q: How long will it take to write my web site content or marketing copy?
A: In a perfect world, designers, developers, and writers could take their sweet time. But the reality is that I’ve turned around copywriting projects in less than 24 hours. Mammoth web site copywriting projects sometimes take weeks, smaller ones a few days. Press releases- a few hours. Brochure copywriting projects- a few days. It really depends on the project and whether it’s a team effort or I’m writing solo. The one thing I promise is that whatever due date is set, your new web site content or marketing copy will be there on that date or before!
Q: What is the fee schedule for Write Essentials’ copywriting services?
A: Think of my copywriting service fees like a perfect pair of designer leather oxfords or pumps. The shoes you’ll wear for years. The pair that still make you smile when you think of what you paid for them. More than you’d usually spend, but worth every penny in quality and style. My copywriting service fee? Exactly like that.
Unless you specifically request an hourly rate, I quote all copywriting projects as all-inclusive so your final invoice will never be more than the original quote assuming that the scope remains the same. All research, interviews, drafts, revisions, and incidentals are included in the price. And of course, the content is delivered press ready, easy to upload to a web site, or formatted for immediate media distribution.
Q: How is content copyrighted and how I do protect my copy investment from being stolen?
A: Once your final invoice is paid, all rights to the copywriting are automatically transferred to the client. There’s nothing worse than investing money in your web site content only to find it pasted on a competitor’s site. Usually a copyright statement posted on your site or material is enough to protect your copy. However, a few clients have filed copyrights with the government for extra protection. If you discover you’re a victim of content stealing, a letter from a lawyer can embarrass or deter the thief. But should you have to go to court, count on me to have accurate records of when I sent the original content to you.
I reserve the right to include links and samples of my copywriting work on my web site. Promoting the material I write for clients is good business for us both. But I do not include all projects due to non-disclosure agreements that I enter with clients who request such discretion. If you prefer to keep your copywriting project with me confidential, I’ll strictly adhere to that request.
Q: I want a web site, brochure, etc., but I want to work with one company. Does Write Essentials do web/print design and SEO work?
A: I focus on my strength- copywriting. However, I handle graphic design well for “easy” projects. I don't design web sites, but I innately write SEO web copy. It comes naturally to me- keywords and all. I have an outstanding circle of web designers, digital printers, graphic designers and SEO experts I can bring in and put together a complete package. You can enjoy working with a single enthusiastic organized source- me!
Q: I want a web site, brochure, etc., but I’m already working with web/print design and SEO firms. How do I bring you on board as the copywriter?
A: Get out the plank and I’m there. I’ve worked on projects from the beginning, the middle, and as a last “Oh, we need copy” thought. I’ve come to the rescue of clients whose copywriter failed them at the last minute. I “play well with others” so no matter what stage of the project you’re in, I’ll blend right in and dazzle your web design/marketing team.
